My Great-Aunt Arizona
Gloria Houston's My Great-Aunt Arizona provides a window into a very different slice of life in America a long time ago. Arizona was born in a log cabin and grew up to teach in a one-room schoolhouse. This book is also a good cross-over into Social Studies and is a wonderful read to teach ideas, more specifically comparisons and contrasts. Teachers or families can use this book to compare and contrast modern American living to life Arizona's time. Children can be asked how they are similar or different to Arizona, or how her way of life compares and contrasts to our way of life now.
