Pax

Sara Pennypacker's Pax is a literary masterpiece that deals with heavy topics most middle class Americans wouldn't think of addressing. It is geared towards fourth through seventh graders and is at a higher level of critical thinking. In this story, Peter takes in and tames a wild fox. But his father makes him dump him in the forest before he leaves the boy at a relative's house and leaves to fight in the war. Heartbroken and dealing with the grief of losing his mother and with an absent and hard father, Peter sets out to find his fox, despite the approaching war. Along the way, he discovers the power that love has to change people's lives.
